In 1994 [I think] a B-52 pilot was practicing for an air show, banked WAY too extreme, and crashed the plane. This was at Fairchild AFB, WA. When we went there to ferry missiles back to Barksdale, I stood on the spot it crashed. There’s a memorial there now.
This looks like the video used in the investigation. It shows the blatant disregard for safety some of these pilots were exhibiting at air shows and in general. From the high banking angles, to the extreme vertical angles. Rumor has it that the pilot flying the doomed jet was a full bird colonel, who was just about to retire. He was also known as a ‘hot dog’.
It’s long, but you see some of the crazy maneuvers they were pulling back then. Now, this would never be allowed… this accident is part of that reason.
